4 Practical Examples Of How To Feel More Protected Daily
1. Sign Up For Martial Arts
This is a huge game-changer for me. I remember initially feeling overwhelmed at the thought of signing up for Muay Thai at my local gym.
For one, I am horrible with coordination. I can’t tell my right hand from my left hand at times.
So, imagine trying to spar with another person.
But I decided to try new things in my life this year.
What Did I Learn?
- – Huge self-awareness about people’s facial expressions, their physical movements, the surroundings
- – Gain self-defence tactics that are PRACTICAL when you have zero pepper sprays/ tools to keep you safe. All I needed was my bare hands and legs to help me overcome any danger.
- How much I needed to get more physically in shape. Sparring is only at the end but the start of classes included a lot of athletic footwork and drills to keep stamina up.
- Relieve stress. Whoa. This was a huge game-changer for me. I am a busy mom of two who can never find anything to punch around the house.
Haha. This time I was able to punch the bag and release all of my anger and frustrations in a confined and safe space.
Oh, did I mention that this was a female-only class? That allowed us women to feel so empowered and at ease at the gym. My coach is also female! Yay for that.
2. Practice Gratitude
Yes, there are so many bad things going on in the world and you might be feeling so disheartened and powerless.
The truth is, you have a lot of amazing things going on for you. You might just fail to recognise it.
I started a gratitude journal early this year and have seen numerous benefits!
3. Pray
This might be an unpopular suggestion but prayer has meditative properties.
Even if you are not religious, you can easily google up a few simple basic prayers to get you started.
Some days, I don’t use the rosary but it’s just a simple prayer for surrendering to God.
‘Dear God, today feels overwhelming and hard. Help me make the right decisions as I go about my day.
See, how simple it was? Took a minute to recite it.
4. Practise Self Care
Self-care allows you to feel more empowered and stronger.
Some days self-care to me is flossing my teeth uninterrupted by my husband and two kids.
Other days, it might look like me signing up for a spa package.
It is different because life happens….
So I urge you to ensure you are getting enough self-care in your life so that you feel more confident about yourself.
Not sure what tickles your fancy? There are over 50 self-care ideas here. I am sure you can find something that will help you.
