The Science Of Affirmations

Affirmations are not a magic wand but it’s a tool to be used with actions. Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to change the way we think.

So, when you repeat these positive mantras, you can create new pathways in the brain that reinforce these new beliefs.

Did you know that there is MRI evidence that the pathways increase when self-affirmation is practiced?

My Top Tips For A Productive Thursday At Work

1. Paste Your Affirmations Everywhere!

Okay, maybe not everywhere but get those wall grids and list all your affirmations on a wall grid like I did!

Every day, I get a chance to look at it and remind myself of my overall goals.

It doesn’t have to look pretty but it has to be there!

I also included pictures of my family to make it more personal.

Try it and let me know what you think!

2. Have A Gratitude Journal

Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for. – Zig Ziglar

found that regularly expressing gratitude can change the way your brain functions and it reduces gray matter.

It makes you feel healthier and happier!

So I grabbed an inexpensive gratitude journal off Amazon and saw the benefits within weeks.

How I benefited from having a gratitude journal:

  • – Better sleep
  • – Less anxiety
  • – More productivity
  • – Overall happier mood
  • – I felt more confident

3. Focus On ACTION, ACTION, ACTION!

Now that you have crafted out the affirmations, you need to couple them with actions.

So my Thursday affirmation for work was to be more productive and efficient at the task at hand.

How do I turn that into action?

I got up earlier at 6 am and started working IMMEDIATELY.

By immediately, I meant with unbrushed teeth and stinky PJs. I even have a picture below to show you the real deal.

Sounds gross but I wanted to avoid any excuses I had first thing in the morning.

The result. Whoa.

I wrote 25 more articles than I would have if I had done my complete morning routine of having my coffee, shower and then breakfast.

I know that always sounds ideal but is it ever practical when you have goals you want to achieve?

4. Feed Your Mind With Nutrients

We are so quick to assume it’s our mood dictating our food choices but what if it is the other way around?

Research shows that consuming healthy food such as nuts, berries and whole grains can have a tremendous impact on your mood and subsequently productivity.

Sure, I can be a horrible binge eater too but I realized that it was a vicious cycle with no end.

So, what I do instead is to meal plan.

And, I make sure to keep it super SIMPLE. I eat the same lunch daily. A simple salmon sandwich with lots of greens.

Sorry, most of my energy is already spent on work so I want to make it easy to consume a healthy meal without having to overthink things.

5. Listen To Podcasts On Self Growth

Instead of listening to some mindless music on my drive to pick up and drop off the kids, I listen to the following podcast to improve my brain health:

I promise you, there is always something you can learn to improve your life.

6. Turn Away From Social Media

Social media is free but is it?

It takes so much of your dopamine and TIME.

And time isn’t something that you will ever get back.

A year ago, I unsubscribed from Netflix and I removed 99.9% of people I follow on Instagram.

I only follow one account but that is work related.

The result? A huge boost in productivity. I am in a much better head space this year than I was a year ago.

Try it and change your life!
