Now, let’s get into the juicy bits about life. Reciting these self discipline affirmations is fine and dandy but what other things can you do on a practical basis?
6 Practical Steps For Self Discipline & Belief
1. Understand Your Subconscious
Aristotle was once quoted as saying “Give me a boy for 7 years and I will show you a man”.
There is a growing body of evidence in the medical world that our subconscious mind accounts for behaviour.
The good news is you can change your subconscious mind by programming with positive thoughts.
For example, instead of saying “Oh, I am always a failure just like how my mom used to say to me. Say instead I am going to try at this and know I will succeed.”
2. Not Letting Thoughts Dictate Your Actions
Just because you don’t FEEL like going to the gym, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. Recognise it for what it is.
I am feeling sluggish today.
BUT.
I am going anyway.
3. This Is What Hard Feels Like
Alex Hormozi, an entrepreneur who is worth $100 million said that whenever you are struggling with a chore, task etc, tell yourself that this is what hard feels like.
A lot of people envision it hard to be something very far away. It is not.
Sometimes, it is as simple as working on your marketing plan for the 60th with no one watching and finding it boring.
This is when the rubber hits the road, my friend. Welcome to hard. It is plain boring especially when you do not get an instant reward for all your effort.
4. Say No Things That Don’t Matter
In the past few years of me becoming disciplined, I have learnt to cut out friends and family who do not support my goals.
I never realised how much time they were sucking from me. Time is a precious resource I want to keep for my closest and dearest.
It was hard to say goodbye to them but I also know I am now more intentional and am a good friend, wife and mother to those who are valuable to me.
Some Other Helpful Things I Did:
- – Cut out social media
- – Reply unimportant text messages only after 7 pm
- – Feed my mind with self-improvement podcasts and books (my favorite one is Modern Wisdom)
- – Remove subscriptions to Netflix
- – Join a community for married women to learn self-development and marriage tools
- – Walk at least 30 minutes daily even if it is indoors in my small home of 1200 sq ft
5. Replace Your Bad Habit With A Good One
We all have habits. Mine needs to have a piece of chocolate in the morning. Makes me feel better (TEMPORARILY) after a rough night with my baby girl.
So, what did I do differently? I just asked my husband to brew me an expensive cup of coffee instead.
I was lusting over chocolate, I needed someone/ something else to make me feel good or pampered.
See? It is really that simple to replace a bad habit.
6. Just Start
The magic you are waiting for is in the work you have been avoiding.
Now, read that again.
You don’t need to do cold plunges or crazy 1 hour getting ready in the morning routine.
I have to be honest with you. I spend most days immediately writing my article in my messy ponytail, unbrushed teeth and smelly PJs.
Why? Because I am the most productive in the morning I want to use that time wisely to get the most done.
So, what is it going to take for you to do the same?
Conclusion
As you can see, I provided more than just affirmations for self discipline. I included some of my personal beliefs and practical ways I instill self discipline in my daily life.
I truly hope this article has benefited you in more ways than one and you don’t just keep it to yourself but share it with people closest to you so that we can all live to our potential.
I am so excited to see what you have in store for you. Let me know in the comments if anything resonates with you.
Sending you love and light as always.
