10 Personal Strategies To Overcome Self-Doubt Beyond Self Doubt Affirmations

1. Read About Other People

Whatever it is you wish to accomplish, there is someone out there who has done it before.

Follow them on social media, read their books, and be obsessed with them.

Surely, they would have had to go through tons of challenges and adversities to get to where they want to be.

If you can, seek out mentorship from them. For example, I have always wanted to be a freelance writer which would enable me to afford a living whilst being around my kids.

So, what did I do? I signed up for a writing course with a renowned blogger and then paid her to coach me.

She was kind enough to walk me through her challenges and design a realistic plan that would get me to where I wanted to go.

Is it still hard? Sure it is. But I at least get to envision a future for myself through her accomplishments and I have someone along the journey.

Lo and behold, now I am out here hopefully inspiring you!

2. Serve Others

I think oftentimes we think too much about ourselves. If you are focused on a goal that can create a better future for others, it will seem less daunting.

I dare say, you will feel more driven to achieve it faster.

3. Work On Your Physical Health

There is a whole body of research on the mind-body connection.

I won’t bore you with the details but best know that working on your physical health can greatly improve your outcomes in life.

Also, the reason you keep doubting yourself is that you have fallen short of keeping promises to yourself.

4. Draw A Vision Board

Yes, I know. You are probably thinking “I am not into vision boards and The Secret”. I get it.

I was just like you.

But I asked myself a very important question, how do I know where I am going if I don’t know what it even looks like?

I realized that I was blaming doing a vision board because I was avoiding the real question.

It was hard to sit with myself and draw out what a successful life looked like.

Was it being 110 pounds for the rest of my life? Was it having 3 kids and a white picket fence? Was it speaking in a forum of 1000 people?

I didn’t want to dream it because I was so sure I wasn’t going to achieve all those said goals.

Sounds foolish, eh? I am glad I snapped out of it and made a wheel of life with my partner.

Here’s what ours looked like!

There are another 4 months to the year and I am glad to say we have achieved 80% of our goals. Woot Woot!

self doubt affirmations

5. Remove Distractions

Quite simply – quit social media. You might find yourself looking at everyone’s superficial accomplishments and feeling envious and worthless.

If you find that extreme, perhaps you can find some apps that control how much you use social media in a day.

self doubt affirmations

6. Surround Yourself With Like-Minded Individuals

I had big goals for myself this year and I realized I needed to remove people who were not supportive of it. It was hard. After all, loyalty in friendship is prized in our society.

But what if that blind loyalty costs you, your life? It seeps into every aspect of you when you are only just trying to be better.

Well, what does it look like?

When you tell your friend, “Hey I plan to run a marathon” and the person responds “Ew”.

You feel dejected and alone and you feel like that is a stupid goal to have because your supposed best friend responded that way.

She eventually explained that marathons are “ew” for her but not for you.

But how is that a helpful comment, you ask when you are already battling self-doubt?

Time to cut those types of people out.

7. Choose Hard

If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. So, choose hard. Lean into discomfort.

You also have to be real here. How hard is hard? You are not a soldier fighting in World War 2, it’s just a war in your mind.

So….get over it and move on!

8. Your Actions Follow Your Emotions

If you are expecting how you feel to dictate your day and your life, I have a surprise for you.

You won’t get to where you need to go.

Even if you feel you can’t exercise because you had a bad day at work, you just have to put one foot in front of the other to do it.

You will be surprised at how your emotions can change when you choose the very action you want to avoid.

9. Get Back On The Bandwagon

If you fail at your goals, so what? Move on. Try another way. The road is never linear.

This time you will attempt your goal with experience and you will be close to the end.

10. Journal Your Past Achievements

More of than not, we forget what our previous achievements looked like. So, I would suggest for you to list it down in detail.

It can be as minute and as gigantic as a corporate move.

Here’s mine:

  • – Became the youngest and fastest-rising Manager to be promoted in a management consulting firm
  • – Climbed the tallest mountain in South East Asia with little to no preparation
  • – Gave birth to two beautiful children without an epidural
  • – Took care of my grandmother who had dementia
  • – Worked from 9 am till 5 am (the following morning), only to report back to work at 9 am
  • – Be still madly in love with the first boy I met at 20 (am now 36 😉)

So, share with me, what is on your list of achievements that you are proud of.
