My Top 5 Tips In Dealing With Anxiety (The Christian Way)
1. Pray
Growing up, I used to think praying meant asking God for MY will to be done and not His.
I had to change that.
And I have to be honest. Even as a practicing Christian, I didn’t know how to pray. I needed the extra words of wisdom that felt like it was crafted for my situation.
So what did I do?
I downloaded the Bible app and it did the trick. Whatever emotions I was feeling such as anger, sadness, and marriage issues even were all there by topics.
I could easily select an option and anything from a 3-day prayer to a 30-day daily prayer was easily at my fingertips.
The result:
I assure you; I was a changed woman. More than my circumstances changing.
2. Exercise
We all know the obvious. Exercising can reduce your stress levels and yet it is the last thing we want to do.
Why?
Because you are already feeling so mentally drained, the thought of physically draining yourself is the last thing on your mind.
Here’s what I did instead.
Pick up both my kids from school and walk with them around the park.
Walking is such a low-intensity workout that the barriers to doing that are removed!
3. Be Grateful
I am embarrassed that I often talk about being grateful but I often forget to fill up my gratitude journal.
Such a difference to look back at it when it is recorded somewhere.
I feel a spring in my step before I start my day because I am just so grateful to be alive and to experience what an amazing life I have…. even if it is not perfect.
4. Volunteer
I find volunteering for a bigger cause reminds me to be grateful for my current life.
It forces me to think of myself less.
Sounds bizarre but I would highly recommend that you do it.
This year, my husband and I decided to volunteer to be Catholic Marriage Preparation Presenters.
It has led to us spending more time together and also reflecting more on our married life as we journey with other couples.
Win – win for us both, eh?
5. Listen To A Podcast
Sorry, not sorry but I don’t have much time to read a book these days because I have two young kids and a busy work life.
But what I do know is listening to a podcast from anyone from an ordinary person to a billionaire is in the palm of my hand.
Some of my favorite podcasts to listen to are as follows:
Some of the topics they bring up are something that resonates with me and makes me realize that I am not alone after all.
I listen to it when I go pick up the kids from school, do chores or when I am cooking.
Remember, opportunities don’t look like opportunities so if you have a growth mindset, there is something that can be learned anywhere, anytime.
