What Is A Growth Mindset?
Carol Dweck first discovered this concept when she studied how children coped with failure.
Some children took failure as the end of the rope whilst the rest, relished in focusing their efforts on other means to get there.
People with a growth mindset typically possess the following traits:
- – Enjoy challenges
- – Strive to learn
- – Easily see the potential to learn new skills
- – Optimistic
People with a fixed mindset exhibit the following traits:
- – Worry about failing
- – Regularly kept secrets
- – Cut corners
- – Cheat to try to gain an advantage
I had some big goals I wanted to achieve this year!
While the goals I wrote down were important to me, what was equally important was also what was not written. My mindset.
I needed a shift in my perspective. To achieve my goals, my current attitude wasn’t going to be enough.
So what did I do?
I signed myself up for new experiences this year.
Some examples I have done so far to improve my own growth mindset:
- – Signed up for Muay Thai (despite my horrible lack of coordination)
- – Facilitated a marriage enrichment workshop for the first time
- – Cleaned up my social media (i.e. only follow influencers/ thought leaders who have a direct impact on my life. This means removing all friends and family)
- – Read one new book every single month
- – Removed my friends who were unsupportive of my goals
Was it hard? YOU BET. Was it worth it? YOU CAN BET ON IT.
Reciting these 180 over affirmations for a growth mindset is one step in the right direction.
However, I would encourage you to go the extra mile by ‘supporting’ it with action steps (similar to the ones I stated).
I promise you, this will certainly put you in a better frame of mind for anything that will come your way.
How To Use Affirmations For A Growth Mindset
1. Select 1 – 2 Affirmations From The List Above. Find the ones that resonate the most with you.
2. Incorporate It Into Your Daily Life. I find reciting them early in the morning before the kids take over my day the best time. But please select a time that works best for you!
3. Visualise The Goals You Have – Forming mental images has a direct impact on the success of our goals.
4. Write Down Your Affirmations Daily – I find the practice of writing it down every single day in my journal very healing. It helps to center my day.
5. Supplement Affirmations With Actions – Time to kick that butt into gear by taking action on your affirmations. Step outside your comfort zone and witness the changes in your life.
Conclusion
So there you have it, the most comprehensive guide on affirmations for a growth mindset out there!
I hope by the end of this article, you have discovered ways to be more resilient and open-minded in your journey of self-discovery.
A word of caution though, while reciting these affirmations can have a profound impact on your life, you still have to do the things that scare you the most for it to take true effect.
I promise you that this shift in your mindset will only take you further in life and your relationships.
Till then, hope to see you in some of my other articles.
Take good care of yourself!
